Vnukovo Changed Airport Access in Moscow
When the Aeroport Vnukovo metro station opened on 6 September 2023, Vnukovo became the first Russian airport directly served by the Moscow Metro.
The station is fully integrated with the airport transport complex. Passengers can use an underground connection between the metro, Terminal A, the airport forecourt and the railway terminal area.
Moscow Transport estimated the journey from Vnukovo towards the Moscow City area at around 40 minutes. For passengers travelling light and comfortable with the metro, this can be an excellent airport transport option.
When the Metro Makes Excellent Sense
If your accommodation or onward connection is close to a convenient metro station, Vnukovo's direct metro access can make public transport especially attractive.
There is no need to begin the journey with a shuttle bus to a distant metro terminus. Passengers can enter the Moscow Metro network directly from the airport.
For solo travellers with light luggage, that can be one of the most efficient ways to leave VKO.
What Does a Private Transfer Change?

Aeroexpress stopped operating the Kievsky Railway Station – Vnukovo Airport route on 1 August 2024.
The railway connection itself was retained and transferred to the Central Suburban Passenger Company, while Vnukovo's direct metro connection has become an increasingly important part of airport access.
Travellers planning to use rail should therefore check the current suburban timetable rather than buying an Aeroexpress ticket based on an older article.
Terminal A Is the Key Passenger Reference
Terminal A is the airport's principal passenger terminal and is the most important reference for arriving and departing travellers.
Vnukovo's medical service, transport infrastructure and metro access all identify Terminal A as a central part of the current passenger complex.
For a pre-arranged transfer, provide the correct flight number rather than relying only on an airline name or a general terminal description.
Follow the Pickup Instructions After Landing
Airport forecourts and access roads are controlled environments, and a chauffeur cannot always wait indefinitely immediately outside the terminal.

Never book an airport transfer using “Moscow Airport” alone. Confirm that the reservation clearly states Vnukovo International Airport (VKO).
This is especially important for departure transfers and journeys connecting between separate Moscow airports.
Connecting Between Moscow Airports?
An airport-to-airport connection in Moscow is not the same as a normal city transfer. Distance, traffic and the need to complete security, check-in and baggage procedures at the second airport can create a substantial overall journey.
If your itinerary requires travel between VKO and another Moscow airport, allow a generous margin and provide both flight numbers when requesting the transfer.
Do not plan the connection around the shortest possible road time.
Current 2026 Roadworks Near Vnukovo
Moscow Transport currently reports traffic restrictions on sections of the road network serving the Vnukovo Airport area because of construction works.
The published restriction period runs from 12 November 2025 until 15 February 2027, with one to three lanes unavailable on affected sections of Proyektiruyemy Proyezd No. 6702 at different stages.
This does not mean every airport journey will be delayed, but it is another reason not to rely on one fixed road-transfer time during the current construction period.
Moscow Traffic Can Change the Journey Significantly
Road conditions in Moscow can vary substantially according to the time of day, destination and temporary restrictions.
A road journey that is straightforward outside peak periods may take considerably longer during heavy traffic.
