Stuttgart Airport Has Excellent Public Transport
Stuttgart is another airport where we should be clear about the alternatives. Under normal operations, the S2 and S3 S-Bahn lines provide direct services between the airport and Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof.
The airport states that the journey normally takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes, with trains running every 15 minutes. The U6 Stadtbahn also serves the Flughafen/Messe stop.
For passengers travelling light and staying near a convenient station, public transport can be an excellent option.
Important: Temporary S-Bahn Disruption in 2026
Current Stuttgart Airport information states that the S-Bahn line serving the airport is interrupted from 20 July until 12 September 2026.
During this temporary closure, passengers are directed towards replacement transport and the U6 Stadtbahn. The airport recommends checking current VVS information before travelling.
This is especially relevant right now, but it is temporary. After the works, travellers should consult the airport again rather than relying on this 2026 disruption notice.

Stuttgart has an unusual advantage for exhibition visitors: Messe Stuttgart is located directly beside the airport. The Flughafen/Messe public transport stop serves both.
If your only destination is the exhibition centre, the journey from the airport is exceptionally short and a chauffeur may add little value. We prefer to say that clearly.

Four Terminals, One Connected Airport Complex
Stuttgart Airport currently lists four passenger terminals. Terminals 1, 3 and 4 handle departures and arrivals, while Terminal 2 is used for departures.
The terminal buildings form a connected complex, so this is different from airports where terminals are several kilometres apart and require a bus or train transfer.
Nevertheless, provide your flight number when arranging an airport pickup and check the latest terminal information before departure. Operational assignments can change.
Heading South? Central Stuttgart May Be the Wrong Direction
Stuttgart Airport lies south of the city, close to the A8 motorway and B27. That location matters when your final destination is outside central Stuttgart.
For some journeys, travelling into the city simply to change transport can create an unnecessary detour. A direct transfer can instead begin towards the destination from the airport itself.
This is why the complete address is more useful than simply entering “Stuttgart” when requesting a quotation.
Road Times Should Not Be Treated as Fixed
